April at many Provincially Funded Non-Profit Organizations is a time of new beginnings. A new fiscal year with fresh budgets, clearly identified goals, and so much hope and positivity for another great year ahead. For an organization such as REES, who is entering into our 35 Year Anniversary, this presents opportunity to reflect on who we are, what we have accomplished, and we hope to accomplish over the next hopefully 35 years of supporting people with physical disabilities and/or health conditions to connect with meaningful and sustainable employment in Winnipeg.
Coming out of our 2024 Strategic Planning Session recently, we are now in the thick of converting the day of planning into a working document that shall guide us through our goals for the few years ahead.
One common theme that has emerged through this process is our spirit and resolve to authentically just be who we are, and to let that guide us in the goals we develop moving forward. A true community-based organization that put clients first, that works within the community to promote our clients, and to assist employers and clients to make the process a little bit easier.
So many things have changed and evolved over the past 35 years. It is difficult to comprehend how a tiny little agency with a couple of staff people, some file folders and a typewriter can be the beginning of the legacy that is the REES we know today.
If the past few years has taught us anything? It is that we are a small yet resilient group who will continue to fight for the important services we provide. Our success stories (as included in each of our newsletters), are the reason we are here, and our resolve to not only survive, but to thrive is evident in our legacy in Winnipeg and within the community.
In closing, many of you are aware of the challenges agencies like REES face with changes to government priorities, shifts in budgets, and the increasing costs of keeping our doors open. We have most certainly, over the past many years, become a smaller staff, given up some office space, and creatively survived in the face of challenging times. This April 1, 2024, marks a new beginning, and we are honoured to still be recognized as the premier employment service in Winnipeg for People with Physical Disabilities and/or Health Conditions, and we strive to continue to give do the important work that we do moving into the next 35 years.
