Youth Employment Project (YEP)
GET ON TARGET TO THE RIGHT JOB FOR YOU!
Project Objectives
The Youth Employment Project (YEP) works to increase employability skills and assist with the transition into employment by providing FREE life-skills, pre-employment skills, computer skills and job search support to youth with physical disabilities or health conditions.
The Project is open to individuals who:
- Are between the ages of 17-29
- Have a self-declared physical disability or health condition (e.g: Spina Bifida, Diabetes, Arthritis, back injury, low vision, Fibromyalgia, knee injury, mobility issues...)
- Can commit to 2 months of full-time training (30hrs/wk) and jobs
search, followed by employment or up to 3 months of work experience
- Are unemployed or under-employed and not receiving Employment Insurance
- Are eligible to work in Canada
The Project offers:
- A network of employer contacts and job search support
- Life skills and pre-employment preparation (5 weeks)
- Basic computer skills (9 weeks- afternoons)
- Resume and cover letter development (2 weeks)
- Job search and interview skills training (2 weeks)
- On-the-job training and support (up to 3 months)
- Advice on how to talk about your disability and any required job accommodations
- Disability awareness training for employers
- Living expense stipend for those not receiving Social Assistance
The Youth Employment Project runs two separate classes in each Project year. The classes are 9 weeks in length with the potential of a work experience placement increasing this time by up to 3 additional months.
*Participant selection will be based on fit to the project criteria and the willingness to make a full commitment to the program.
