Reaching E-Quality Employment Services

    Requires an:  Employment Counsellor

    Reaching E-Quality Employment Services (REES) promotes the employment of people with physical disabilities and/or health conditions.  We are seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of a full time Employment Counsellor.

    Job Summary:  Employment Counsellors (EC) provide assistance, counselling support and labour market information to REES participants. The EC is responsible for providing participant-directed job search support, initiate employer contacts to secure employment for participants and outreach to new potential clients to add to the REES portfolio of active participants.  REES uses a participant-centred, problem-solving approach in order to help individuals improve their employability and self-sustainability in the labour market.  It also fosters the development of career/occupational decision-making, skills enhancement, job search skills and employment maintenance.

    Duties and Responsibilities (includes but is not limited to):

    • Explore employment options and support participant’s job search with concrete planning and suggestions
    • Create Work/Career Action Plans utilizing the participant resources provided
    • Assist with the preparation of resumes and cover letters
    • Ensure that the participants are fully prepared for job interviews, including setting up mock interviews
    • Provide participants with supportive problem-solving regarding barriers to employment
    • Provide the necessary coaching for job searching, cold calls, dressing for success, interview skills, etc.
    • Liaise with community agencies, government departments and educational institutions as
    • Maintain clear and concise records
    • Ensure that participants are actively engaged and working towards employment
    • Facilitate presentations ranging from small to large groups on REES programs and services
    • Develop, or assist in the development, of employability workshops to ensure maximum participant experience and that goals are being achieved.  Facilitate workshops on a rotational basis


    • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in a related field, such as social services or education is an asset
    • Completion of post-secondary education and several years’ experience related to counselling, or in an employment counselling-related profession, may replace formal education
    • An established network of potential employers/participants on which to draw
    • Highest level of confidentiality required
    • Excellent time management and communication skills and the ability to work independently
    • Experience in a non-profit, registered charity an asset
    • Effective problem-solving skills with an understanding of barriers to employment
    • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle maybe required
    • Computer skills including:  Microsoft Office Suite (specifically:  Word, Access, Excel), Outlook Email, data entry, etc.
