REES Workplace of the Month

Initiatives for Just Communities (IJC), is the REES Workplace of the month.

Initiatives for Just Communities (IJC), is a charitable, non-profit organization with faith based roots, which operates four community restorative justice programs. These  programs offer friendship, support and care to those who need it most.

IJC’s programs engage people who have a heart for caring for others, whether they are volunteers or employees, in walking alongside their participants on their life’s journey IJC and REES recently partnered to provide an Employment opportunity for a participant from the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services. IJC truly embraces their model of supporting and building relationships with persons with a disability and has provided all the necessary accommodation needed for this individual to do well in his position.

IJC encourage their staff and volunteers to work with people using the values of human dignity, peace, integrity, through a Restorative justice lens as their core focus. The programs under IJC are as follows;

  • Touchstone FASD: A program that provides support to adults (and their families) with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder as well as providing FASD awareness training to a variety of community groups.

  • El’Dad Ranch: A program that provides residential, day, and outreach programs for people with intellectual disabilities in the south east region of the province (Steinbach and area).

  • Open Circle: A program that seeks to provide relationships of friendship and integrity for men and women who are incarcerated.

  • Circles of Support & Accountability (COSA): A program that works to enhance community safety by creating circles of support and accountability around people with high-risk offense cycles after their release from a correctional institution.
